Preventive Care
Even the most diligent brushing and flossing can't reach everything. Over time, plaque hardens into tartar—a stubborn buildup that only professional instruments can remove. Left alone, it quietly fuels cavities, gum inflammation, and bad breath long before you notice a problem.
That's why regular professional cleanings are the single most effective thing you can do for your smile. Twice-a-year visits let our hygiene team clear away buildup, catch small concerns before they become costly ones, and keep your gums healthy—which research links to your overall health, from your heart to your immune system. Prevention isn't just easier than treatment; it's a fraction of the cost.
Routine Cleanings
A routine cleaning—also called a prophylaxis, or “prophy”—is the standard healthy-mouth cleaning for both adults and kids. It's a comfortable, comprehensive refresh for smiles at every age, and our hygiene team brings over 30 years of experience and a famously gentle touch, so even anxious patients (and little ones!) leave relaxed.
Most patients benefit from a cleaning every six months, though we may recommend a personalized schedule based on your gum health.
Deep Cleanings
When plaque and tartar spread below the gumline, gums begin to pull away from the teeth, forming pockets where bacteria thrive. This is gum disease—and a routine cleaning can no longer reach the problem. That's when we recommend a deep cleaning, known as scaling and root planing (SRP).
Scaling carefully removes bacteria and tartar from beneath the gumline, while root planing smooths the tooth roots so your gums can heal and reattach snugly. We keep you completely comfortable with local anesthetic, and larger treatments are often split across visits. SRP is the gold-standard first treatment for gum disease—it stops the infection, protects the bone supporting your teeth, and helps you avoid tooth loss down the road.
Watch for the warning signs: gums that bleed when you brush or floss, persistent bad breath, tenderness, or gums that look like they're receding. If any of these sound familiar, don't wait—early treatment makes all the difference.
